Unknown artist Portrait of O. S. Greig, commander-in-chief of the Black Sea Fleet (1816–1833).
A gift from L. N. Neese (Leipzig, Germany), the admiral’s great-granddaughter, in 1968. During his military governorship, Admiral Alexei Samuilovich Greig did a lot for the Jewish communities of the South. Around 1827, despite the state anti-Semitism of the Russian upper class, he married a Jewish woman from Mykolaiv, Yulia Mikhailovna Stalinskaya.
