Inscription in Hebrew on the top and bottom: בשנה הבאה בירושלים (Translation: “Next year in Jerusalem”) and שמע ישראל ה’ אלוהינו ה’ אחד (Translation: “Hear, O Israel: the Lord is our God, the Lord is one!”). This is a well-known Jewish prayer line – “Shema Yisrael”, which is part of one of the most important prayers in Judaism, which is a call to the one God and love for Him.
Author’s comment: “In the years of the creation of the tapestry, I worked as a youth coordinator at the Jewish Cultural Center “Sokhnut” and was preparing for repatriation after graduation. And my work absorbed all my feelings for my roots and acquaintance with the new-old homeland. And at the same time, it preserved all the compositional features and techniques of Ukrainian carpets. The border consists of a plant ornament with plants traditionally growing in Israel – grapes and pomegranates. The phrase in Hebrew that all Jews pronounce is at the top, “Be shana aba’a be Yerushalayim” / “Next year in Jerusalem”, and large letters of the prayer “Hear, O Israel” / “Shema Yisrael” are at the bottom. The walls of the old city of Jerusalem are schematically drawn in the center of the composition. Above and below, against the backdrop of the stones of the Wailing Wall, people in traditional clothes carry gifts to the temple – wine, olive oil, a seven-branched candlestick (menorah) and wheat. Stored at the Mykolaiv Society of Jewish Culture (Ukraine, Mykolaiv).
